Personal Trainer
Megan had a personal trainer when she moved here and kept all the routins, so we have been following them, wow today I feel it. I don't usually feel it when we are doing the workout, so Meg had me use heavier weights, but still I was just feeling it....well I am stiff today! Not as bad as I've been in the past but stiff none the less. Will have to push through today and woman-up!

Dec 15......10 days to Christmas
Well this week is the start of three wild weeks! Since we are dropping our exchange student off at the airport, I decided to spend some mother-daughter time with Meg and go visit a friend of ours at the same time. So Thursday we will drop the boys then shop a bit then head to Moose Jaw. Friday will start with us heading back to Regina for some shopping then to the hotel where we will meet the boys and grandkids for watersliding and a nice evening. On Saturday we will go our separate ways with the kids heading to Kyle's family for their Christmas and us heading home, maybe with a stop in Melville to see family and friends for lunch.
It's really cold here (-31 with the wind chill -43, this is not normal for this time of year Sue! and it only lasts about 2 weeks or so) so we have not walked outside, I would but I won't take Dakota out in this, he can barely go out to do his business without coming in limping with one paw frozen! So We are trying to hit the gym and I have to make use of the treadmill in the basement!

New Week
We are starting a new week! I have two suppers down did alright for both, not great but I'm getting better. Should be hitting the gym with Margo and Ernie today, both have said they want to go. This week we have Ernie's Christmas supper (the entire place) and then supper with the boys and lights. Then next week just one supper and a Regina overnight with the kids. Shouldn't be to hard to get through this all!

You read my mind Sue!
Sue just commented that I hadn't blogged in a while. So here goes. Margo, Megan, Kyle, Ernie and I have all joined the gym! Margo and I have been walking one day and gym the next! It's nice because I have a nice sized group to go with me. That helps when you don't want to go alone. I even started jogging on the treadmill, since I know I have to start up again, I might as well start now. We have an actual trainer from the Arthritis program that sets you up with a personalized program so I am awaiting mine to see how far I am from it! lol It is suppose to be for non runners so we will see! Christmas suppers start today, we have a "welcome" supper tonight for Ernie, then tomorrow wings for Don's 50, then the 13th for Ernie's Christmas party, then the 14th the families that have the exchange students are all getting together and going out, then Ernie's crew is having their own supper on the 18th, then .....just kidding, no actually we have the 25 Christmas at the Appels the on the 26 late lunch here with the Cooks! You try to diet through all this! I'm doing my best! I've even tried to offer to drive so I don't drink!!! Extra calories I don't need! Merry Christmas to all and have a safe holiday season! But I will be talking to you again soon, I promise.

Early Morning Walk
I'm up to walk with Lori, I know which one.... Lori H! New Esterhazy walking buddy. Dakota is starting to look at her like he did you Mrs McQ, with all the passion of ...walk, walk are we walking??? did she touch my leash, walk lady I knew it was you....remember the good old days.
I am going to have to move the scale so that it is not staring me in the face every morning. hmmm where to shove a scale, I can think of a few places lol.
Lori and I did 5km yesterday and will do that again today then Ernie and I will hit the gym today at 4pm for an hour or so. Have to be careful on Friday as we are going out for supper to celebrate all the birthdays Karen -Oct, Laurie, Margo, Cana, Lawrence- Nov, Don -Dec Lynda - Feb and Ernie - Mar. So it is easier to just go out for one nice supper then to try to hit everyone. Well, that and the fact that there are 4 people who turned/are turning 50 in this group!!! Happy Birthdays you young farts!

I am $7 short!!!!!
It's Sunday and I have just done a final total on tickets sold and any last minute donations. I AM 7 DOLLARS FROM BEING DONE!!!! I can't believe it, done, like as in dinner!!!
Now the hard part, the training. We have joined the gym in town with 2 other couples and will begin more training programs, other than walking and a bit of jogging. We will move to a more intense program now, not to induce injury but to tighten and tone! Can't wait, I will start a spread sheet for it and really get into it!!!
Thanks to everyone for any help that you gave me!!!
Laurie
PS the best news is I won't be hounding you for money, to come to an event or to donate something! I'M DONE!!!!

Doing Alright
I have already walked 10km this week and still have 4 days left, although I will take today off as I have to go to Yorkton to do a bit of shopping! It has started to snow here, the ground is still brown but the snow is trying to overtake it. We'll see tomorrow what happens, so far the snow hasn't been winning, but it is November 19th today so I think we can count our blessings that it has held off this long.
Christmas is just around the corner and what would it be if there was no snow??? No it is time! Speaking of Christmas I just gave Margo full control on decorating my house for Christmas, she loves to decorate and they just moved into an apartment so she is somewhat limited. I, on the other hand love the decoration but not the decorating so we are a match made in heaven! Thanks Margo!

Relaxing in the Appel house...for about 2 seconds!
We are taking a moment to relax a bit, well for about 2 seconds anyway. Ryan called last night and wrote on his blog all is well with him and last night we had our last event! The steak night was very good and the Old Central Hotel out did themselves, everyone was very impressed! For as much as I'm glad all the events are over with I will miss them! I am still doing the Christmas Basket Raffle and hoping that the raffle and a few personal donations will be enough to put me over the top! Training is still going well for November, I will be starting with the Arthritis Society training in January so I want to be in good shape for that, because that is actual training for the run, what I have been doing is training for the training! I am feeling on top of the world right now with the fund raising almost over and training going so good, I wish this feel on everyone!
Thank you so much for any and all help, donations and support that you have all given me!

This Thursday is the Steak Supper
Thursday is the Steak Supper then we just have the Christmas Basket Raffle, I am determined to be finished with these two projects.
The training has been going very good in November so far I have logged 36KM for this month! Not bad for an old lady, eh? I am really picking up the pace where KMs are concerned trying to really build muscle, seems to be working, if nothing else is telling me that, the number of hot baths I am taking should!
All is good in the Appel house, Ryan should have landed in Australia by now and we are just waiting to hear that he has connected with his travel companion to breath easy! I know he will be 24 in December but he is still my baby!

A weighty issue
I have been really trying with the weight thing for a while now, having lost 40 pounds relatively easy in the beginning, I am now having a really hard time with any new losses. So I am trying new things including picking up the pace with training, Slimfast - just for one month, and challenges - cause I like to have a little competition going. We will see if this new combination works or not! I am hoping it does so that I can get back on with the losing of weight instead of maintaining it! It is really true what they say, the older you get the harder it is to lose, but I have never been deterred by sayings so look out weight I have six months left and I am going to show you who is in control!

Thanks Sue!
I just want to take a moment to thank Sue, you may not know but even though you are far away you keep me motivated by reading and responding to this blog. As I get closer to the end of the fund raising I am trying to take some time out to thank everyone that has helped with the fund raising or the training and Sue you have helped with both and with my mental state, by keeping me focused and positive. Thanks and I look forward to seeing you soon, 6 months to be exact!!!!!
OMG another count down!!!
Love ya!

Sunday Walking
Ernie, Dakota and I got out and did a 10KM on Sunday! Dakota was pooped! Ernie and I were tired but alright. We jogged part of the way out (of town, we go 5KM out and 5KM back) then just walked fast the way back, did our best time yet 1 hour 48 minutes. I know for all you runners out there that is very slow but I haven't been doing much jogging since moving here. My only jogging partner, up till Ernie, has been Meg and she is one busy lady! But I have got a lot of walking partners and I have been keeping that up! This Thursday Ryan is home then we have a friends wedding this weekend....then Ryan leaves Monday! For six months! He is off to Australia, I'm thrilled for him and maybe a little worried, it's the mother in me. He has a good head on his shoulder so I know he'll be fine, but a mother has to worry!
Well better go talk to you all soon.

Two New Challenges
1st challenge
Megan and I are back for another month, neither of us has stated a prize yet, but she is going for blood already! I was over watching the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown with Ayla and having a small treat with her but Meg wouldn't have any! So now I will have to refrain from any cheating because I want to win this month!
2nd challenge
Lori McQ and I are doing a weight off for a month also, the prize being who ever loses the least amount of weight has to go visit the other person. Good idea or what. I really want to win this one because I was just there and I have to go back for a wedding next weekend so I'm tired of travelling that road! Look out Lori I am really pumped to win!

New Walking Friend
I have hooked up with an old friend and guess what, she walks! So we have hit the pavement twice now since hooking up and have plans for many more walks. Now the freaky part her name is.....Lori! I know that is too weird! My two walking partners in Saskatoon were both named Lori now here I have a Lori too! Not a replacement Lori, don't worry my Saskatoon Lori's, just adding a Lori. I have enough walk in me for more Loris. Funny or what! It is great she works in Esterhazy, but lives on an acreage, so in between clients off we go! Perfect or what. The great thing is that she likes to go far, she is always saying straight or turn and is always happy when it is the choice that makes the walk longer!
Margo knows her too so when she gets back the three of us can walk together. and talk, talk, talk. That is the best part of walking with someone, it never feels like a walk! It's a visit!
Thanks Lori H.

I lost!!!!!! WAAAAAA
But I'm happy for Megan, she beat me by 2.8 pounds. She had hockey practice last night, the brat and I'm sure that's where the extra pounds came off!
But Congrats to her cause I know what it's like trying to lose! Plus I did lose some weight too!!!!!!! I just didn't win!
So now I get the kids overnight for her winning. I think I will challenge her again, this was kind of a good thing. Maybe I'll add walking into it, maybe who can walk the most Kilometres.....

Christmas Basket
The basket is taking shape! I can't believe some of the stuff in there! I want to buy tickets on it, but I know that isn't right so I will refrain. My wonderful niece Michelle said she would have the tickets by Friday so I will pick them up and take them to Saskatoon with me to sell. I am going to ask Shopeasy in town here if I can set up a table in their store on a Saturday in November and December to sell tickets also, gotta hit every angle! It is getting close to the end of the fund raising and I am hoping this basket is the last project I will have to do! Wish me luck!
Shopeasy has given me two days to sell tickets, Nov 22 10-4 and Dec 13 9-4! Thanks Shopeasy!!!!

Our Weather
Well it is getting cold here, right now we are sitting at a cool 4, doesn't sound to bad but you have to add the wind here and that can get cold, last night the wind was blowing at 70km an hour.
Now the good news, I like it cooler! Ernie and I walked last night and last Sunday Meg and I did a 10km in the wind. (our wind isn't usually that bad, actually sometimes we have no wind) To me, right now anyway, I like it cooler! I can walk more and then once more weight comes off I will want warmer weather, just in time for Italy!!!! Yes I really am that smart! I planned the weather around my weight losses!!!!
My competition with Meg is going well I think I'm winning!!! Which of course is the "well" part! We will know in 2 weeks!!!! Can't wait I'd really like a pedicure!!!

Getting better
I have been sick most of this past weekend and Monday it all caught up with me! I had to call in sick! When you work at home you have to be really sick to call in cause all the work is right there and the phone calls...... I had no voice, still barely have one today, but will try for awhile to work. Not sure what this is, it's like a cold with no voice sort of in my head, throat and a bit now in my chest. Its crappy anyway!

Pictures of the Events
I am trying to remember to take pictures of the events and if anyone sees themselves in a picture and would like me to email it to them just ask, because I will!
Thanks to everyone for supporting me, if you ever want to change your life I highly recommend doing this marathon and I promise to return all the support you have given me!

Slim Fast still going
I am on day 9 with only 1 bad day, I'll take that! It's easier than I thought, not having to worry about 2 meals a day is kind of nice! Did a family walk last night and will do another tonight. I will try to get Ernie to do a short jog after work today with me also, I need to get more jogging in so it will be with him after work. He seems to love his job which is nice, he always likes his jobs but this one has him smiling at the end of the day! Which is good because I don't see us moving any time in the future, but I never say never! Just kind of like the small town feeling. Although there are a few things we miss, like salsa lessons, well I miss them anyway! I think I will ask the Regional College if it is something they would offer! Maybe get something with some culture going here! Will run have to work today! See ya.

Starting Day 6
Day 6 of slimfast and all is well, haven't killed anyone yet and don't even feel like I want to! Was actually easier to do slimfast with the kids here as I wasn't worried how I would eat while trying to feed them! Look out Meg I feel a pedicure coming on!!!
(Meg and I have a competition going, one month most weight lost, winner gets a reward, my reward will be a pedicure, she will receive (NOT) an overnight babysitting!)
Slimfast I have your new slogan "Slimfast the busy woman's choice" it really was easier to just grab one and continue on with the kids! Although will have to plan for walks when the kids are here as they don't just happen.
Will go out with Ernie after work today, he starts his new job today, if he's not to tired we'll do a short jog, then walk and a movie with Margo tonight!

7 months to go!
We are down to 7 months until the race. My fund raising is over the half way mark, thankfully! We have 2 events planned presently, an old time dance where we will work the bar and an EE Burritos night, you know the supper, dancing, games and door prize kind of night. Can't wait both sound fun, maybe I'll get in a 7 step or a heel toe! Then salsa! Whooo Hooo!
Training is going to have to pick up as well since the closer we get the more I have to realize that I will have at least 2 really cold months where running will be hard at best. I have Margo and Don's treadmill in the basement but may have to breakdown and join the gym in town as my upper body is suffering, as I'm learning in yoga class. My legs are strong but any upper body movements are really hard. So will look into the gym today. Have a firm commitment from Ernie as he did the 10KM on the weekend and found out what shape he was in......... need I say more. Poor guy, but at least he is going to change that. He has committed to going everyday with me, so maybe I'll get him to the gym also.
See ya later.

What a Weekend!
We had a blast! First of all people ate my cooking with no complaints! Then we all tied balloons to arrows, then we went to bed and got up really early and walked/ran/wheeled between 5KM-32KM! I was very impressed, people were donating money, the other runners/walkers were waiting outside to cheer on the very last person coming in! IT WAS PERFECT! Even the weather was good. Then that evening we had a Wii tournment and found out Linda is a great boxer! I think a couple of the ladies are now hooked on Wii and I look forward to playing with them again!
Thanks everyone for a great weekend!

Sue is keeping me on my toes!
Hi Sue and everyone! I am getting excited about this weekend, the friends from Saskatoon, the friends and family close by and the fund raising! I can't wait for it all, I am pumped! I do need Marla here to address the last minute things, Meg has been wonderful but we think to much alike so miss the same details. Everyone arrives Saturday then will stay until Monday morning, so will have help on Saturday with putting together the last little bits.
I have been getting in a lot of walking with Meg and Margo, plus we have added family walks which have been great. Ernie and I will get into 3:30 pm walks starting Sept 29, as he wants to get into shape too! We will likely walk for a couple of weeks then start jogging together, just like I always dreamed we would!
I will up date my facebook with photos of the weekend on either Monday or Tuesday so make sure you check it out.

This coming Sunday
This Sunday is the Walk/Run/Wheel for Arthritis, I am hoping to draw a good size crowd. I have advertized the heck out of it in Esterhazy and Melville papers and I have put posters in every shop in town! Right now I have about 20-30 coming which is good. Super good would be 50, so of course I will shoot for 50 but will be happy with whatever turn out there is! Mom had a bad night last night with Arthritis pain, which makes this more real, this is the first time she has ever backed out of golfing with me due to the pain. For those that don't know I am running in honour of my mom, who lives with Arthritis. Maybe I will get in a jog with Meg this afternoon. Then this evening is Yoga with Margo and maybe a walk after. Then I will check in on mom.
Have a great day everyone!

Thursday Morning up like a lark......
Ok so it's not quite the right words to the song, but I am up before the alarm (5:15 today) and feeling great! I am going walking with Margo, who is NOT my MORNING person friend, so I am appreciating the fact that she is up and willing to walk with me. I will tell her so when I see her! She has been out with me everyday that Meg is unable to go, even double walking some days if they both want to go. We are speed walking right now to get everyone at the same pace then back to jogging, funny thing is I think I walk faster than I jog.....lol scary! We are talking about golf on Saturday and a 10kl on Sunday, just for fun to time etc. I will do it and maybe: Meg, Margo and Ry, we'll see how everyone is feeling on Sunday!

Crazy Ladies
Ok I did 5kl with Meg yesterday morning and then Margo and I decided to walk up a hill (small but far) to see what was on the other side! Guess what, the other side of the hill! But I added 9kl to my daily total. Bit stiff last night but had a GREAT sleep so all in all was worth it.

6am Monday Morning
I am waiting for Meg to go Jogging and thinking about Sue and Dave, they are either getting ready or left by now to go back home. I was going to call them this weekend but I forgot how much time the kids take! we babysat this weekend and when you don't see them everyday you spend all your time with them. I will send Sue and Dave an email at home. It's going to be weird and good with Simone so close, Dave and Sue will come down more often, maybe even move here, anyone need a Gas Fitter/Plumber????? But until they move when they are visiting they have to spend time with family also. Laurie will share! Cool concept!
Anyway must run, lol literally!
Back from run and feel great!!!!!

Now the rest is up to me!

Sue and Dave are Here
Well we have been relaxing with a bit of walking, too much eating. Ahhhh that's what friends are for! We will try to find something to do today as it is a holiday here so nothing is open. Maybe tennis or golf or Yorkton???? For sure a walk! Tomorrow they are going back to Minot so it's our last day here, best enjoy it!

Meg and I walked this am for an hour so it would be about 5km, we may go roller blading tomorrow morning, it will depend on how her day goes, maybe I'll try to get Ernie out with me since we are getting caught up now. Then I'm on vacation and will be going to Minot to pick our friends Dave and Sue.....Yaaaaa They will be here for 5 days YAAAAA! Can't wait! A walk buddy!

Jogging tonight with Meg
We have moved our jogging to evening for the time being as it works better right now and it really cools down nicely. Mornings have been a bit busier than usual around here. But I hope to get back to my morning jogs as I prefer to have it over and done with and I like mornings. I need Lori McQ to move here then I have a willing partner at least 4 times a week, ....or Sue she'd come with me....Dave can we get working on that????? Megan is great but she has little kids, cute little kids but little kids and you can't leave them at home while we go jogging. Ernie keeps saying that once we get settled he will come with me, so I'm going to keep him to his word. All we have to do now is baseboards and put the dishwasher back, my dad will do these things with our help as he is the expert, then nothing until November when we get windows. So look out Ernie!

Dave and Sue Arrive this week
Our friends arrive this week into Minot for a quick visit and here for a quick visit then back to Minot to finish off the visit. I am hoping to get in some walking with Sue in the cooler times of the day, right now it is suppose to be 28 on Saturday, which is not what I call walking weather! But we can either go in the morning or the evening. I'll be really good all week so I don't have to watch so close on the weekend.
Hurry Friday and get here!

257 Days
Ok there is 257 days until the marathon, so on Oct 13 there is 200 days. So I am going to push until Oct 13 to see how far I can get, weight wise and running wise. I will watch everything I put in my mouth and I will shoot for running 5 days a week. I don't think I can, I KNOW I CAN!

Esterhazy Miner Journal
I just did an interview with Helen at the Miner Journal in Esterhazy. They are doing a piece on the marathon, the run/walk/wheel event and Arthritis! Yaaaaa! We've got to get the word out about Arthritis!!! She will be coming over today after work to get a picture of Megan and I running today. Megan is a bit camera shy but has agreed for her mama! There might even be a mention of Lori McQ as my Saskatoon trainer, I will keep a copy of the article for anyone to read and will have a copy of it to post at the run/walk/wheel event in September. This is so exciting! I highly recommend this as something life changing, if you're into that sort of thing!
Thanks Miner Journal!

New Shoes
I got new running shoes, 3 pair and they are for running only. So I have set up a spreadsheet to track the km I put on each pair so as to not go over the recommended number. It can get pretty detailed this running! I have my regular shoes that I will use for walking and then I have my in door runners that I wear inside and my outside runners for the yard. OK now Ernie can complain that I have to many shoes, I must have at least 8 pairs of just runners, but in my defense they each have a purpose! The 3 actual running shoes never get used except for running and you can't wear yard shoes inside, right! Come on women agree help me out here!!!!! Lori McQ I know you understand, you who owns at least 30 pairs of shoes and I'm being nice saying just 30! Does Rob know about this shoe fetish????? Or that he has to get a second job to support it???? I won't tell, promise. Off the shoe subject....18 days until I go get Sue and Dave!!!! Yaaaaa I am going to Minot on Friday to get them, then I have to return them on Tuesday, Simone and I have custody of them and we have learned to share.... I even invited Simone and family down to make it easier!!! Simone the offer is still out there.....

Increased the Run
We are now doing 5km, will do this for a couple of weeks and then increase 2 days to 7km until we can run the entire 5km then will increase all days to 7km. Megan found a new run but it is wet and muddy, yuck. I'm sure if it stops raining for a while here it won't be wet and muddy, so please stop raining. It is a nice run otherwise, through some nice walking paths and it comes out at the edge of town. Dakota likes it cause he can be off leash for the path part, but he still plays the protector, he walks up about 10 yards in front then checks it out and then looks at us as if to say "OK it's safe, come on", this continues the entire time he is off leash. On leash for the jog he is training to run on my right side, right on my right side, Lori you'll appreciate this! No more in front, or in the way. We bought a different leash that is for running only and it clips to my water bottle belt and it is short, so he has to stay right beside me on the right. It was hard at first but he seems to be getting it, when we are out for a walk he still can go on his long leash, although I may do away with it altogether so as not to confuse him. Tomorrow Kyle works days so we will have to start by 5:30am I love it!

August 2008
OK it's August that is 9 months from the run! Just like having a baby! So just like having a baby I need to get bigger and bigger, well the run distances need to get bigger, not me! So this week we have increased the run. By September 21 I hope to be able to jog an entire 5km race, or as close to all 5km as possible! That is my goal! I have 2 months and Meg has the same goal which makes it easier since we jog together. We are going out 4 times a week but as it gets closer will increase to 5 or 6 times a week.
I am thinking about other winter sports I can do to keep me going when it is really cold......any ideas, I ski but right now that is it. yes I will keep jogging in the winter but what else can I do?

back dropping pounds
I had another loss for July, maybe I am going to start losing again! That would be nice! It wasn't a big loss but it was a loss, that's 2 months in a row that I have lost, I think I'll go for 3!!!! Running with Meg is awesome, now I wish she was running in the marathon with me. I think if I trained really hard I could keep up with her. There is a 10km event in Regina in September that we might enter, Ryan is entering the half marathon, so his big sister and mom might just have to try the 10 km, I'm not ready for a half yet but I will be!!! This is so COOL!

New Week
OK I had my week of getting back to it with walking, today starts jogging, Meg is on her way over and we are going jogging. Then we may talk the men into going for a walk tonight! Or a roller blade! Scratch that I forgot it's Monday and that is golf with my mom. Meg and I did a slow jog but did it in good time and we will start jogging faster for one set (right now one minute of a set) until we can increase, very slowly, our speed. Will jog again tomorrow, Wednesday weights, Thursday and Friday back to jogging. Will do 2-3 weeks like this then increase the distance.

Tuesday Done!
We did up Tuesday right too! Meg, Dakota and I! Went 3km right now we are speed walking just until next week when we will start back with the minutes walking and minutes jogging. Got take baby steps to get back into it. No I haven't been out of it that long, but to prevent an injury I will take it slow and steady. Tomorrow is weight day, where I work out with weights, I will try to talk Ernie into walking with me in the evening, but he has been quite busy with his new job so will have to see.

Monday Morning, Up like a Lark!
Just up waiting for Meg to come jogging! Dakota is right here waiting also! Ya!!!! Back at it!

Tomorrow I start back
No more excuses, we are more or less moved in, just doing some renovations now. The renos should be complete by August 21, that is when the flooring goes in, then just pop a toilet back in place and done! Have to paint and sub floor up to that date then we are stopping on the inside for a bit and will start work on a fence. But anyway back to jogging I have developed a plan for running, Monday -2km, Tuesday 5km, Wednesday weights, Thursday 2km and Friday 5km. As I go I will increase the 2's to 3 and the 5's to 7, always increasing as I go to a point where the 2's are 5s and the 7's are 10s, then once or twice a month I will do a long run of 15-20km. Need to get back into it slowly as it has been 3 weeks since I last jogged. I still walk some of it and I probably always will but I will decrease walking time and continue to increase jogging time. Here I feel I can go out on my own if no one is available to go with me.

Slowly Settling In
Well we are here, ripping off wall paper and cleaning. We are making some changes before Ernie has to go to work on Thursday. Will be making lots of changes before we're done, but will start slowly to be sure we are making the right ones. For those that have seen the house, come again it looks very different already. When Ernie returns to work I will begin transplanting flowers, there are some nice flower beds they just need some work (Dave and Sue where are you, you'd love this part). No garden for veggies as it is quiet shady but will put in the horse shoe pit and see what else we have room for. Well better go and get cracking this work doesn't do itself! Jogging starts next week with Megan and Ernie! Yes, and Dakota!

Almost Moving
We are getting ready to move, so everything else has taken a back seat for this week. The only good thing is I am running around and lifting enough to get in a lot of exercise. Yes we are do it yourselfers when it comes to moving! Crazy but Ernie likes it that way. Ryan and Ernie do most of the heavy lifting I am the box lady and pack and unpack lady, seems to work for us. I stay out of their way while they are lifting and it all seems to go smooth! Didn't do so well eating on the weekend but not to worried I am back in the saddle today and back watching extra close, can't afford a bad weigh in!
I will be down (internet) from July 10-15, but will have an entry ready for the 15th for you, see you then.
Had some sad news, my friend Sue, (the one who is in a lot of the comments) her dad passed away. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Sue, Dave and family.

Family Reunion Time
I will have to be really good this weekend as it is Ernie's family reunion. I will go with the intent of doing some walking and I will really watch my points! I can do it, I know I can. Too bad beer wasn't 0 points then I could really do it! LOL Looking forward to seeing all the family. Thanks to Debbie, Michelle and Bernie for the planning.
I had a good weigh in so I will use that as inspiration!

July 2, 2008
Ok we are back from Esterhazy and now getting ready to move there! We bought a house and take possession on July 11, yes I know it's only 9 days from now! I am trying to get going with the packing, well what Ernie hasn't done already, the house is almost empty! Jogging is a bit on the back burner at the moment but I am still getting in 1 or 2 a week, once the move is complete I will go to 4 or 5 a week.
I was in Esterhazy to help out with the grandkids as my daughter's shop was moving and she and her husband were tied up with that. They (Meg and Charissa) bought a building, renovated and have now moved in and opened up for business again! Ryan was even there building muscles by helping with the move. Ernie couldn't be left out so he came down and did some moving for the day. All in all good weekend but tiring for everyone!

It's Thursday
Ernie and I are going jogging this am, oh yes and Dakota! Kota is thrilled, he won't leave my side because he sees the jogging shorts and he knows this is walking time for him. This weekend I am going help Meg and Charissa by either babysitting or helping with renovating, I think with my experience in renovating they'd be better putting me with the kids. I will also be dropping off some more boxes since I'm going that way.

It's Monday!
I am getting ready to go jogging and both Lori's are coming today. I love it when all of us can get together! The jog goes so fast and the conversation is so good! We will do the river today, it is suppose to be hot again so will be glad to get the run over early when its still just warm. Right now its only 9 but this afternoon it will be mid 20s, if and when I can avoid the heat I will right now until I drop more weight, then bring on the heat!
Where oh where have the Lori's gone where oh where can they be? THEY BOTH SLEPT IN!

OK 10km down and now on to my next small goal
I will be training to try to jog an entire 5km in September, I am going to host a walk/run/wheel for arthritis (another Joints in Motion fundraiser) in September in Esterhazy. Participants will pay $25 and walk, jog, bike or roller blade set distances then have brunch and get a $15 tax receipt! Cool eh? I will jog the 5km so I can be there to help organize it. I will be able to participate that way! I want to make this a really fun experience for all that attend, kind of like how we felt running the Bridge City Boogie 10km, it was the kind of rush that you want to keep feeling. Anyway for anyone interested in doing this type of activity please keep watching my blog for updates! Talk to you soon!

Post 10KM
Well it's done and over, the 10km that is. I am so glad we did it, I really thought all the way up to it that I should have signed up for the 5km, but it wasn't that bad. I really encourage anyone here in the city to do the Bridge City Boogie, it was a rush! The volunteers, the musicians and singers, I have never had so much fun sweating! Lori E and I ran the race together and enjoyed a good conversation and a lot of high moments, like seeing the 6km sign lol, (you had to be there). Lori found her well for the last lap and ran her heart out, me I went the same speed, again I am the turtle. If you ladies invite me back next year I would be glad to do it again, this time with Lori M (Q) with us!
Yes, get use to it Lori Q is now Lori M. My trainer, Lori Q got married and is right now honeymooning in New Zealand with her husband Rob. Congrats!

Hello Melville
Just wanted to say hello to everyone in Melville, if you've read the paper (June 11th issue) I thought you might check out my blog! Ernie and I will be back in the city for the BBQ at the Hoffman's on June 14, 2008 from 5:00 until ?????, we will be visiting after the BBQ with anyone that can stay. All monies raised at this BBQ and all events will go to the Arthritis Society for the Joints in Motion program, which I am proud to be participating in. We would love to see you all and catch up with you!
I would like to take this space to thank our friends for doing this, Cana, Lynda, Margo, Don and Karen. These guys have been great supporters and I can't thank them enough.
After this event we will be planning a Walk/Run/Wheel for Arthritis in Esterhazy, there will be a walking event or a 5 or 10 KM run or 16 or 32 Km Bike event. Keep watching for updates.
If you are here, leave a comment, I love to read them. Click on the comment link and then follow directions, I think you have to fill in the letters you see then click name and type in your name, it's really easy!

OK weigh in time!
I'm not impressed but I lost 2.4 pounds in May! Kind of crappy but no one guessed 2-3 pounds so you all owe me comments! The silver lining! I still get comments. Am still plugging away with the weight I will win, as I've no choice here and neither does the weight, with all this jogging it has to go and I think it is just starting to understand that. Will keep you posted monthly as to loses. Thanks to all those that participated in that challenge! No weight challenge for June, but I would like to do a challenge with miles or Km walked or jogged, just trying to think of one. Maybe I could track the miles or Km I do and you could try to match or beat me, something like that. If you think of anything let me know, we could start anytime and do it for one month. I'm out now as I have my garage sale going on today and tomorrow then the Bridge City Boogie on Sunday! (that's the 10KM) Talk to you later.

Just got a call from Cana in Melville!
Cana just called to let me know that the Melville Advance (our home town paper) will be calling to do an interview regarding the Marathon and our fund raiser BBQ at his and Lynda's farm! Yahoooo! What a break! I am hoping everyone in Melville that remembers me will try to either make a small donation or come to the BBQ.
This is by far the hardest thing I have ever done, but I am so excited about doing it!
I am thrilled, thanks Melville!

week 9 of 9
Ok this is the week I do the 10 km, it will be my first 10km but that's ok. I know I can easily do the 6.4 so this should be alright, right! I will walk or do shorter jogs this week, 2 walks and 2 jogs, so I can take Friday and Saturday off then Sunday it is the Bridge City Boogie Day! Yahooooooo I am pumped! Plus this weekend (Friday and Saturday) I am having a garage sale to help raise money, should be a busy weekend!
busy weeks don't alway work out the way I plan, so this week I will wing it.
Everyone think of Lori Q on Saturday, it's her big day!

He already is teaching in a temporary position until the end of June, Congrats Ry, well done!
Ok we only did the 6.4km many problems this morning, no car so I was late, Lori played ball and was very stiff, but we did increase both our jogging time up to 40 minutes and our sets up to 7 minutes. Plus I feel fantastic! I will do the 10km on Sunday with, I hope, Ryan or Ernie.

Week 7 of 9
I have had a good and bad long weekend, I walked twice with two friends that were both impressed with my speed (I still don't think I'm faster) but I ate to much! It was my daughter's birthday and my mom made my favorite cake! one thing lead to another and here I am starting on Tuesday to try and run off some of those extra calories!
Tuesday: 5km jog with Ernie and Dakota at 5:30am
Wednesday: River with Lori Q and Lori E, we jogged 35 minutes in 5 minute sets, with 3 minutes walking in between, can't seem to get the time down but we are increasing the amount of jogging so that will have to do for now. Next week Lori E and I will attempt a 10km to see how long it takes us, I am the turtle in this group, slow and steady, but I finish the race if I remember the story correctly.
Thursday: rest
Friday: 5:00am with Lori Q for a 3.5km
Saturday: since I didn't get in a 5km yesterday Lori Q has agreed to do a 5km with me this morning, she's such a nice girl and it's her wedding shower/stag/hen party tonight so I will be her driver so no drinking! but lots of dancing, it's a Latin night out!
Sunday: rest!

It's 4:45 am
I really enjoy the early morning jogs. I don't have to worry about it the rest of the day and I feel so good after. I love mornings! Very few people are out, traffic is a breeze and all the early morning joggers say "good morning" to you. The birds, the sun.....oh you get the picture OK. I love morning jogs.

Inches Gone
Well the weight has been taking it's time coming off so I decided one month ago that I would start measuring myself to see if there is a difference in my size. Well in one month I have lost 5.25 inches! not bad eh, unfortunately the biggest loss was my bust! But a loss is a loss.

Week 6 of 9
Good Morning, I hope everyone had a great Mother's Day! I took the weekend off to relax and enjoy Ryan waiting on me hand and foot! I don't get that treatment from him everyday, it was wonderful! Back to reality now.
Monday: off
Tuesday: river with Lori Q at 5am! We did a new record, we did 30 minutes of jogging, yes I think I am finally jogging! We did 5 minutes of jogging X 4, with 2 X 3 minutes of jogging and 1 X 4 minute jog which = 30 minutes, YAHOOOOO! Will do another 30 minute jog this week maybe 2 and next week will try to increase to 35 minutes! I Feel Great!
Wednesday: only got in 1 mile this am
Thursday: River jog with Lori Q at 5:00am did 30 same as above but instead for 2 X 3 minutes I did 1 X 6 minutes. OH YEAH!!!!!
Friday: Dakota has been giving me the "eye" so I will do the 2 mile walk with him today.
Saturday and Sunday we have friends down for Phantom but I'm sure the ladies will come out both days and do the 2 mile walk with me.

week 5 of 9
Getting a slow start this week, but plans go as follows:
Monday: off
Tuesday: 2 mile walk with Ernie and Dakota
Wednesday: 4 mile wog with Lori E -OK new record, Lori E and I wogged, almost jogged. We ran 25 minutes, again not all at once but through out the 4 mile run. My best prior to this was 18 minutes!
Thursday: 2 mile walk with Dakota and Ryan, yes the boychild joined me for a bit of the walk, he was out jogging anyway!
Friday: 4 mile wog with Lori Q at 5am! we did 25 minutes again, yahoooo. I will talk to Q and see about going to 30 next week just to keep increasing the time, the 10kl is in 4 weeks, and I'd like to be doing 40-50mintues by then.
Sat and Sun will wog one day and walk one day
In two weeks (week of the 19th) Lori E and I (and maybe Q)plan to try a 10kl she has a marked trail we will take and we will time ourselves to see how we are doing! I am very excited and looking forward to it, I know I can't jog the entire trail but I am jogging more and more.

May 1st
Well my weight loss didn't go as well as planned, last week it was good this week not so much, (the ladies will understand the slight gain). But I lost! I am going to keep losing now, mostly because of the walking/wogging. But my eating habits are changing and for the better. I do love the Weight Watchers formula where you can eat as much or what you want until you run out of points, it teachs you to make healthy choices through out the day.
Challenge for May from me to you all!
For every pound I lose in May you have to write one comment somewhere on my June (month) blog. So if I lose 10 pounds (god willing) you have to write 10 comments.
Whose in? Leave your name in the comments and your guess on how many pounds I'll lose, if you guess the right number of pounds lost you are off the hook and don't have to write any comments. Deal?

Friday Morning
I went on my wog this morning alone as Lori had some important family business to attend to, I'm thinking of you Lori, did the short wog instead of the long one. But I did it! I tend not to push myself as much when I'm alone, so the fact that I did it is a tribute to the guilt I would feel letting Lori down or the fear I have of her, lol. Just kidding it's a tribute to her dedication to me and me knowing that this is for me, she is taking all this time for me! She has a jogging group she can go with and at a much better speed and distance. That goes for the other Lori also, they both can out jog me but they continue to go slow and have regular breaks of walking so that I can go with them. Thanks Ladies and I WENT this morning with Dakota (Ozzie) we did it!

Fab Wog Yesterday
Lori E and I did the river wog and we started our 5 set earlier than we normally do in fact we finished it where we normally start it! We then did our 2 set and then we decided to do another 2 set as an extra just to increase a bit, we ended up jogging for 2 straight minutes! Then we did the bridge in 3.5 minutes! (we usually take 4 minutes) We were so pumped by the end nothing could stop us, we were Rocky at the top of the stairs! It was a great day!

Wednesday
Sorry Sue, I'm slowing down. We are going to try to go to Esterhazy this weekend since last weekend we didn't make it due to a snow storm. Only in Saskatechwan, shorts one day snow the next. It's always nice to go there because I know I can keep up the walking with Megan, she loves to go for a walk. Plus we will celebrate Dad's birthday finally. He is 70 so it's kind of a big one. He's a young old fart, still keeps busy, right now he is building a desk for Megan and Charissa's new place. Megan says it looks really nice, will have a look when we get down.
Sue is a friend who reads this blog daily and leaves comments that encourage me to continue going for it. (for those of you that don't know her). Thanks Sue

Week Two
Sunday: 4 mile wog with the Lori's-done
Monday: 2 mile wog with Ernie -done
Tuesday: 2 mile wog with Lori Q -done
Wednesday: roller blade with Lori E -done
Thursday: 4 mile wog with Lori Q & Lori E -done
Friday: 2 mile walk with Ernie-not done took the day off
Saturday and Sunday I will be away and will make arrangements to walk one day and rest one day.
My trainer Lori Q says we will keep the 1-2 minutes and 5-2 reps this week again then look at moving up next week. We did the River (4 mile) wog on Sunday and we did our 7 reps then we did the 4 minute jog across the bridge, very hard for some reason, but once I am done I feel such a rush! I can't imagine what crossing a finish line will feel like.

Week 2 of 9 to the 10kl
We start out Sunday with a walk, our friends Kathy and Dan were down so we went for a walk down by a park in the area. Later this afternoon we go for our River wog. It is a beautiful day out today at 18 and it's only noonish. Can't wait to go!

Week 1 Complete
Well I have completed week 1. Lori and I have wogged 3 times this week with the third being amazing, we do 5 sets of 1-2 then walk for a bit then do 2 sets of 1-2 but on the last set of the evening we were on one of Saskatoon's many beautiful bridges and this one had just a slight decline so I felt alright to continue past the minute beep. I ended up jogging the entire bridge which took me 4 minutes! Yes I jogged 4 minutes straight! I felt good after and we finished off our walk in our best time yet, we cut 3 minutes off our time! What a night!

Week 1 (of 9)
This is week one of nine before the 10 kl. We have started wogging, with the jog 1 and walk 2 (1-2). It is going good, we do the 1-2 at least 3 times a week and walk 2-3 times a week. We are doing the River wog on Thursday. It is nice to go with all three of us, we have such a nice time together and these ladies know how to push me, but in a really nice way. I'm not one that is very competative but I do like to beat myself and I think they are the same so we aren't fighting for first place amoung ourselves just with ourself. All in all we are a great fit. I am aware that I am the weakest link in this lovely group but that is changing quickly. Right now I'm aiming for the best weakest link that I can be and not to make excuses but they are both more than 10 years younger than me. I know they will both say I'm doing great (for an old person) but I just want them to know that I appreciate everything that they are doing for me, by slowing down a bit when I get tired or laughing at me if I think I can beat a light and run in out in front of traffic. (he did stop though didn't he). These ladies are gems and whenever I do a better time or jog a longer distance a little bit of the credit is owed to them. Thanks Ladies. Dakota aka Ozzie thanks you too, I will weigh him and get pictures posted for Sue (he is really her dog) to show her how well I am taking care of him until she comes back!

I Wogged, Almost Jogged
We did our long walk yesterday and I wanted to start wogging so of course the Loris were happy to help, we starting with a 1-2 which is 1 minute of jogging and 2 minutes of walking, we did 5 sets of this (which is hard, thank goodness I have 13 months to train) then we walked for about 10 minutes then decided to do 2 more sets! 7 Sets! My first time out I did 7 sets. Lori Q says we will continue this set up for at least the next week and maybe a bit longer, then we will increase. I'm so excited.....I am Wogging!

River Walk
I love the river walks we go on, although I don't think we should call them walks, not jogging either. The ladies I walk with make me move, they are training for their own race and have to maintain a pace. It's nice though, we time ourselves and try to beat the time from the last walk, until we get up to jogging it. I should try some wogging tonight what the heck we start next week anyway. I will, just a bit tonight, it's cool here -4 so that will help with my over heating. I'll let you know how I did next week! I'm excited!

10kl Run count down
I am doing a 10 kl run in 89 days, nervous, in a word yes. Lori and I are wogging starting next week and where as I don't assume I will run the entire 10kl I would like to do more jogging than walking. But we have 9 weeks to train, so I should be alright, right? At this point I am focusing more on weight loss so I don't wreck my knees, therefore April is weight loss month for me! Full on, no excuses weight loss. So here's to a huge weight loss and to the start of wogging and to 9 weeks. The only sad thing is we lost Lori Q as a running mate, she is going to see her man! Way more important since they are getting married soon. Good news is we picked up my son, the jogger. Oh we are a team of 4 doing the 10kl in case I haven't mentioned that. If you are in the area come out and cheer us on! We'd love that! Our team is called "Busy Bodies" It is on June 8 it's called the Bridge City Boogie, there is a website with all the details, check it out.

April 1, 2008
I have claimed April as my month, in April I will: up my activity, lose more weight than the previous months and start wogging! Started early, yesterday Lori and I did our walk and we thought we didn't beat our time, (yes we time ourselves) but we did by 3 minutes, I guess we are just walking faster without even knowing it. Then Ernie and I played racketball for 50 minutes last night! Wow I feel good this morning. Oh yeah and we are already booked to do the River walk on Friday! I feel good danananananana you know that I do now danananananana.

River Walk
My 2 friends, both Lori, and I have found a new walk, it is down by the beautiful river and includes 3 bridges. It's about 6.4 Kl which is 4 miles and we timed ourselved so now we want to beat our time. We are doing this walk at least once a week, maybe more. It is such a nice walk very relaxing but the company is always what makes a walk for me. Once we get this walk past the time we want we have another bridge we can cross to make it longer. I continue my lunch time walks with Lori Q and Dakota or Ozzie as Lori calls him. Weight loss has been slow but I KNOW April will be extremely good. I will post new pics in May to show the difference.
Sue any word on you two moving over, you'd love the walk!

Call Me Bubbles Darling
For those of you that really know me that is my favorite line from my favorite sitcom. I am trying to get all bubbled up and going. This week will be a bit slow as I have now caught a chest infection which is slowing me down a bit, but I am STILL WALKING. I was hoping to be wogging this week but I can wait until next week and a point where I can breathe again. I never used to get sick but this winter has been a bad one for me. But that ends this week, I will be positive and work through it. Ernie and I will be working a hockey game to raise money this weekend. It has been offered by another marathoner. They are a great group of people, they always try to help out other marathoners, I think because they know how hard it is to train and raise the money needed. Must Go and Work, once I'm done work I will go and walk! And Love it!

This is what keeps me going!
This is what makes me keep going: I was home this weekend and I received donations from family and friends and sold 2 cases of bars. I really appreciate what you all are doing, it is very hard to ask for money/help for something I want to do, but you all gave so willingly! What you gave me is more than your money you told me that you believe in me! I know I'm going to do this but you have no idea how much it helps to have you all on my side! Thanks Again!

I am having a great time with the grandkids and have maintained my walking with Meg and sometimes Kyle and the kids. Eating hasn't been so great but I am getting back on track today. It's really nice to see my old home town and its growth. Will report back next week, everyone have a great Easter.

Lunch Out Today
I am off to a well earned lunch, of course it will be salad, but at EE Burritos they make the best salads. Will continue to walk like crazy while visiting my daughter, son in law and grandkids. Can't wait! Then we spend next weekend visiting friends and family in Melville. Time Well Spent I say! I will keep checking in so no slacking on the comments. I will keep track of my walks also.

walking again today
Lori Q is on her way and we are off on another walk, I hope to start wogging by April.
Please Comment
If you find this site please make a comment, I really enjoy reading the comments people leave. Especially the positive ones (don't be rude because that is just, well rude) they can really lift me up when I don't want to work out or wogg. Thanks.

Everyone needs a Lori Q
This is a woman that gets me out walking almost everyday and makes suggestions like "lets walk farther from now on, no more short walk" and things like "lets enter a 10 kl, it will be fun." In case you check out my blog LQ THANKS!

Just entered a 10 kl
I have just entered a 10 kl for June so I have 3 months to train, this run is half of what I'll be running in Italy so it is a good chance to see how I'm doing. I still have 11 months after this run to train so I'm hoping I will know where I need to focus.

Walking Today (Wogg)
I will be walking today if anyone is interested in joining me. I will be starting walk/jogging soon. I'm going to call it wogging, you know where you walk a bit then jog a bit, yes wogging it is! I will be doing a 10 kl on June 8 with some friends and yes I will be wogging! As a fund raiser I will be having a garage sale on June 7 at the garage sale I will be selling BBQ burgers to raise money for the marathon, a friend gave me the idea, and at this point I will do anything to raise the money, I figure if I raise all the money early I will be able to focus on training more.
Friday, March 7, 2008
Oh Yeah! Bars for sale
We are selling bars to raise money and I have boxes of them in my house anyone interested bring some money and come on over. Bars are $3 Belgiun Chocolate and $2 Simply the best (the ones we always sell) also I have coffee for $5, it's suppose to be really good coffee. Give me a call or stop in.
Today I Feel Great!!!!!!!!
Today is weigh day and usually this is a great day or a not so great day, well to be honest I don't care what the scale says today I feel great, I walked with my friend LQ at 6am and walked fast! She even mentioned that I have kicked it up a notch, which means a lot coming from her (she is in better shape than me, by far). I am even starting to enjoy the workouts more.
BRB ok I weighed and I am down again. WHOOO HOOO. I am now down 39.1 pounds. By next week I hope to have kicked the 40 pound mark!

I got another boost
I got another on line donation, man when you are just starting you have no idea if people will support you or not. Then I got a call from a friend telling me that she is supporting me just trying to come up with a way to do it creatively. Then another friend called and said she is here for me! Ernie and I have been selling chocolate bars and that has been going well but you have to sell a lot of bars to raise enough money. I don't want that many bars hanging around my house while I am trying to train, so I have other ideas about how to raise the money.
Garage Sale in Esterhazy and one in Saskatoon. A night out at EE burritos (Lori Q is helping me with that one) I am doing a BBQ in front of Canadian Tire in the Confederation Area on August 30 and 31 (I need helpers for this event) a guy at Ernie's work suggested asking people for their bottles/cans, he says you pick a couple of days and ask people to drop them off. I will also do anything else I can think of.
Anyone got any ideas?

The Start of Training
Not as easy as one would expect, I have to make myself go to the gym and walk/run. I start today with actual training. I will start with 1-1, 1 minute walk, 1 minute jog. This will continue for about one week. I will train at the gym, at home and outside.
Wish me luck.
Wish me luck.
